Questions

Choosing a mode

Which mode is right for me?

If you want to see and keep what you give sites, start with Praxamark Vault. If you read, study or research and want to keep, mark and cite what you read, watch and listen to, choose Praxamark Clip. If you want AI providers, your AI twin, your people and CRM, and publishing, choose Praxamark Atlas. It is one install, so you can move up whenever you like.

What happens when my Plan ends?

Praxamark steps down to Praxamark Vault, or to Praxamark Clip if you also have a Praxamark Clip Plan, and nothing you kept is lost. The paid features switch off until you start a Plan again.

When I highlight something, or Praxamark records data, where is it stored?

On your own computer, in your Praxamark Data Vault inside your browser. There is no Praxamark server and no account, and Identity Praxis has no copy. Nothing leaves your computer until you press something:

  • Post sends a copy to the destinations you chose. Local destinations, like a folder, Obsidian or Tinderbox, stay on your computer. Online destinations, like your AI twin or Zotero, go to that service.
  • Summarize, Define or Look up sends the passage to the AI you chose, either on your computer or a public AI provider.

Can I encrypt it?

Yes. In Settings → Security & privacy, set a passphrase, save your recovery code, then seal your Praxamark Data Vault. Once sealed, your posts, what you shared with sites, your wallet and your browsing record are encrypted on your disk (AES-256), and they open only when you unlock. Thoughts and clips waiting to be posted are not sealed yet. So your charts and counts still work while it is locked, some things stay readable: dates and daily totals, each post's destination and archived-page link, and which sites hold which kinds of your data. Today encryption is off until you turn it on. From the next release, your Praxamark Data Vault is sealed from the start.

What does each mode do about trackers?

Praxamark Vault will show you how much each site tracks you: how many trackers it loads and whose they are, with a running total, so you can see what goes on (coming soon). Praxamark Clip keeps what you read, watch and listen to free of trackers: tracking codes (like utm_ and fbclid in a link) and web beacons (tiny hidden images that report they were seen) are always taken out of what you clip and post, and blocking known trackers with one switch is coming soon. Praxamark Atlas has the full tracker manager: rules for each site, exceptions, the tracker log and Insights → Trackers.

How long would the policies take to read?

For each terms and privacy policy you agree to, Praxamark counts the words and the time to read them, at 238 words a minute, the adult average for non-fiction (Brysbaert, 2019). Reading every privacy policy you meet would take about 201 hours a year (McDonald & Cranor, 2008).

Limited or complete My Browsing?

My Browsing is your own record of the pages you read, kept on your computer. Praxamark Clip keeps the last 30 days as a list you can search. Praxamark Atlas keeps all of it, for as long as you choose, with charts and exports, and can send it into your AI twin.

What is MyTerms, and who wrote the agreements?

Praxamark supports MyTerms (IEEE 7012, beta), a standard for privacy terms that you offer to a site, rather than terms a site imposes on you. You choose an agreement. When a site says it accepts MyTerms, Praxamark asks “Share your terms?”, with Share, Share and keep it current, Not now and Never on this site. In Settings you choose to be asked first, to share automatically or never to share, and you can set it site by site. Both sides keep a signed record; yours is in My Digital Exhaust → My Terms, beside the Agreements ledger of the policies you agreed to. The agreements are written and kept by Customer Commons, not by Identity Praxis, and nothing here is legal advice. MyTerms is in every mode.
